The Good Intent and Engine 3-10 visited their sister company in Blue Ridge Summit Pa this past weekend. Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue was the company that we bought 3-10 from in 1994. On Sunday just before we came home Fire Chief Jim and his wife took us on a tour of the National Fire Academy. This location is where FEMA and the National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial is located.

Hose and Barrel Competition

The GIHC would like to thank everyone for showing up to our hose and barrel event. We had a great time hosting it and all the spectators and competitors enjoyed everything. The tournament was setup as a round robin tournament. This years champions won by beating the undefeated cressona fire twice to take home first place. We also would like to mention that Sacramento fire co participated in their first hose and barrel and although they didn't win a trophy they had the fastest time of the day. Hope to see everyone next year at ours and friedensburg fire co (usually at the end of May) hose and barrel competitions

This years tournament champions were New Ringold Fire Company. New Ringold's team went undefeated to the championship match between them and Mahanoy City's Citizens team. Mahanoy had to beat New Ringold twice to take home the trophy. The first game Mahanoy City won. The second game went to New Ringold. Saturdays games were probably some of the best games that we've seen / played in over our grove. Congrats New Ringold you deserved it.

Class of 2009

The GIHC would like to congratulate Steven Nagy for finally becoming an active member and for graduating from high school. Steven was a junior member with us since he was 14 and was recently voted in as an active member. Steven is graduating from Minersville Jr/Sr High School on June 12th. He is planning on attending college at the University of New Haven with a concentration in arson investigation. We would like to wish him luck with continuing with his education and with taking that next big step in life. Steven will definitely be missed while he's away Make us proud!

Memorial Softball Tournament

This years tournament champions were Pottsville Fire Departments station 30 team (aka "Balls Deep"). They went through the bracket undefeated. Winning the championship game over a very good New Ringold Fire Department team. We had a huge turn out this year and there were a lot of great games! Hopefully we can have the same turn out for this years summer bash softball tournament.
Which is open to everyone.

Llewellyn Mine Disaster

1984

A massive rescue effort has focused on an ominous gaping hole on Sharp Mountain, where authorities fear a four-wheel drive vehicle containing six young people is wedged at least 50 feet below the surface. The mine shaft is nearly perpendicular and rescuers are unable to reach the vehicle because of its unstable condition. They hoped to insert a large steel pipe down the mine shaft so that some could descend through the pipe to the vehicle.
Six young people lost their lives when their four-wheel-drive vehicle plunged down a mine shaft on Sharp Mountain.
